Your Questions, Answered

  • An End-of-Life Doula (sometimes called a Death Doula) is a non-medical companion who supports a dying person and their family. Much like a birth doula helps brings life into the world, we help guide you through the transition out of it. We provide emotional, spiritual, and practical support—acting as a comforting presence, a planner, and an advocate to ensure your wishes are honored.

  • This is our most common question! Hospice focuses primarily on medical care, pain management, and nursing. Guiding Through Love focuses on everything else. While hospice nurses visit intermittently to check vitals and medication, we can be there for longer periods to provide companionship, vigil planning, legacy projects, and continuous emotional support. We work alongside your hospice team to fill the gaps in care.

  • No, we do not perform medical tasks (such as administering medication or changing wound dressings). Our "Non-Medical Comfort Measures" focus on holistic well-being, such as creating a soothing environment, gentle touch, playing favorite music, and ensuring the person is physically comfortable.

  • You can reach out at any stage. Some families contact us immediately after a terminal diagnosis to help navigate the shock and start planning early. Others contact us when death is imminent for support during the vigil. However, reaching out earlier allows us to build a relationship with the person and create a truly personalized plan for their transition.

  • A Legacy Project is a way to celebrate a person’s life and leave something beautiful behind for loved ones. This could be writing letters to unborn grandchildren, creating a photo memory book, recording life stories, or organizing recipes. We help you brainstorm and execute a project that feels authentic to you.

  • Yes. Decision fatigue is real during times of grief. We can sit with you to discuss funeral planning, explain your options (including home funerals or living wakes), and help coordinate with funeral homes. Our goal is to simplify the logistics so you can focus on saying goodbye.

  • Absolutely. We honor all beliefs, traditions, and backgrounds. Whether you need specific rituals during a vigil, or particular practices followed for the cleaning and dressing of the body, we advocate for your specific cultural and religious needs.

  • Yes. Our support doesn’t end the moment a loved one passes. We offer assistance with estate and property sales, including referrals for probate attorneys and junk removal, to help you manage the practical burden of closing an estate.
